Sharing Your Location with Google Maps

No separate app needed — Google Maps can share your live location with family for as long as you choose.

If everyone in the family already uses Google Maps, this is the fastest way to share location with consent — no extra app required.

Share your location

  1. Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Location sharing, then Share location.
  3. Choose how long to share for — a set number of hours, or until you turn it off.
  4. Pick the person to share with. They will get a notification and can see your location in their own Maps app.

Stopping it

Go back to Location sharing at any time and tap Stop for that person. Sharing also ends automatically once the time limit you set runs out.

Google Family Link, for children's devices

For a child's own phone, Family Link is the more complete option — it covers location, screen time, and app approval in one place, set up by a parent from the family group.
